How to Put on a Mermaid Tail

Posted on

Once you buy your swimmable mermaid tail, you are almost ready to begin your magical journey of swimming as a mermaid. A mermaid tail for swimming has two pieces: the fabric mermaid tail that is called a mermaid tail skin and the monofin swim flipper. The monofin swim flipper has two parts: the plastic fin and the neoprene foot pocket that is attached to the plastic fin. Once you have all the parts of your mermaid tail, all there’s left to do is put it on. How do you put on a mermaid tail? Let’s learn together!

Step 1: Put monofin inside the tail skin fluke
First, you need to put your monofin inside your mermaid tail skin fluke. The fluke is the bottom portion of the mermaid tail. The mermaid tail skin is open on the bottom for you to insert the monofin inside. The mermaid tail fabric is stretchy so you can pull the fabric over the monofin. You put the top of the monofin inside the opening on the bottom of the mermaid tail skin and stretch one side of the mermaid tail fluke over one side of the monofin. Then you pull the other side over the monofin. Once you have the monofin securely inside the mermaid tail fluke, you’re ready for step 2.

Step 2: Scrunch the long part of the mermaid tail around the top of the monofin
Once you have the monofin inside the mermaid tail skin, you’ll scrunch the long part of the mermaid tail skin around the top of the mermaid monofin. You will then move the fabric of the mermaid tail down the top of the monofin until you can see the two foot opening on the neoprene foot pocket of the monofin.

Step 3: Put feet in foot holes on the monofin
When your mermaid tail skin is scrunched so you can see the foot hole openings on the monofin, you’ll put your feet into the foot hole openings. The foot pocket is supposed to be tight on your feet so it will take some effort to squeeze your feet into the openings. If you are having a hard time getting your feet into the foot pocket, you can drip the monofin in water. It is easier to get your feet into the monofin when it’s wet. When putting your feet into the foot holes, it’s important to put your fingers inside the foot hole behind your heel and pull the neoprene over your heel instead of pulling on the material around the ankle. This will help your monofin to last longer.

Step 4: Adjust the top Velcro strap over your feet
Once both of your feet are in the foot pocket, you can adjust the top Velcro strap, so it holds your feet snug against the monofin. The top strap is designed to stop your feet from sliding around in the monofin. With the top strap tightened over your feet, you will have more control, propulsion, and comfort. The lower strap or straps on the monofin foot pocket are designed to hold the foot pocket to the plastic fin and the lower strap or straps should be tight before you put the monofin inside the mermaid tail skin. Once your feet are inside the monofin foot pocket, only the top strap will need to be adjusted over your feet.

Step 5: Pull mermaid tail up on your legs
Once you have your feet in your foot pocket and have properly adjusted the top strap, you can slide the mermaid tail skin up your legs until it rests nicely on your hips. Once you’ve done this, there is only one thing left to do…. SWIM.
You are now ready to start your magical journey of swimming like a mermaid.
